The Mozilla Foundation has announced a significant 30% reduction in its workforce, a decision which will dismantle its advocacy and global programs divisions.

The cuts were confirmed in an internal email from Mozilla Foundation Executive Director Nabiha Syed and later corroborated in statements to TechCrunch and Engadget.

The nonprofit cited a need to streamline operations to “increase agility and impact” as it intensifies its mission for a more open and equitable digital future.

"That unfortunately means ending some of the work we have historically pursued and eliminating associated roles to bring more focus going forward," stated Brandon Borrman, Mozilla’s vice president of communications.

Though Mozilla’s standalone advocacy division will be dissolved, the Foundation emphasized that advocacy remains essential to its mission.

Mozilla is actively reassessing its approach to advocacy to ensure it aligns with the Foundation’s renewed focus on strategic priorities.

Mozilla Foundation, the nonprofit branch of Mozilla, operates separately from Mozilla Corporation, which oversees the Firefox browser.

This latest round of cuts follows a February reduction, when Mozilla announced layoffs of approximately 60 employees primarily from the product development team.
