Portuguese manager José Mourinho is reportedly on the verge of returning to Real Madrid after confirming that he has delayed giving a final response to a new contract proposal from SL Benfica.
Speaking about his future, Mourinho revealed that Benfica submitted a fresh offer earlier this week, but he chose not to make an immediate decision.
“I received a new proposal from Benfica on Wednesday, but I said: not now,” Mourinho said, hinting that major developments could arrive soon.
The veteran coach also stressed that the coming days will be decisive regarding his next move, adding: “We’ll see on Sunday. Next week is important for my future.”
His comments have intensified speculation surrounding a possible comeback to Real Madrid, with reports suggesting negotiations between both parties have entered advanced stages.
Mourinho previously coached Real Madrid between 2010 and 2013, guiding the Spanish giants to a La Liga title, a Copa del Rey crown, and the Spanish Super Cup during his successful spell at the Santiago Bernabéu.
A return to Madrid would mark one of the biggest managerial stories of the summer window, as the club looks to begin a new era under one of its most iconic modern coaches.
