Portuguese coach José Mourinho has put an end to speculation surrounding his future at Benfica, confirming his full commitment to the club’s long-term project.
Speaking in remarks reported by Goal, Mourinho stated that his decision to stay is not tied to transfer activity or financial backing from the club’s management.
He emphasized that his continuation depends solely on the club’s desire to keep him.
“My future is not linked to demands or promises. I work within a project I believe in, and my main motivation is to succeed with the team,” Mourinho said.
Despite Benfica facing challenges in the domestic title race, the veteran coach has already begun planning for next season.
His strategy includes promoting young talents from the academy as part of a broader vision to integrate emerging players into the first team.
Mourinho highlighted the importance of relying on youth, especially amid a congested international schedule, describing the academy prospects as “elite talents” capable of maintaining the team’s competitiveness.
Benfica now prepares for a crucial Lisbon derby against Sporting CP, a match that could play a decisive role in shaping their position in the league standings.
