Morocco captain and Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi is set to stand trial in France after prosecutors confirmed that a rape case against the 27-year-old will proceed to court.
The allegations stem from an incident in 2023, when a 24-year-old woman accused Hakimi of rape at his home in the Paris area.
French authorities opened an investigation in March 2023, and an investigating judge formally ordered a trial in February 2026 after rejecting efforts to have the case dismissed.
Hakimi has consistently denied the accusations and reiterated his innocence in a statement released on social media, saying he has been waiting for the opportunity to present his side of the story in court.
The Moroccan international stated that he trusted the judicial process and expressed frustration over what he described as years of public scrutiny.
Meanwhile, the plaintiff’s legal team welcomed the decision, saying it gives their client the chance to be heard in a trial after more than three years of legal proceedings.
No trial date has been announced yet, but the development comes while Hakimi is representing Morocco at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The defender remains available for selection as legal proceedings continue.
Hakimi, who has earned nearly 100 international caps, played a key role in Morocco’s historic run to the 2022 World Cup semi-finals and has enjoyed major success with Paris Saint-Germain, winning multiple domestic and European titles since joining the French club in 2021.
