Morocco Reports 1st Confirmed Monkeypox Case

On Thursday, Morocco’s Health Ministry reports the first confirmed case of Monkeypox, according to the official news agency MAP.

“Within the framework of the national system of epidemiological vigilance and monitoring, and in implementation of its communication policy, The Ministry of Health and Social Protection announces to the knowledge of public opinion that, on Thursday, June 2, 2022, the first confirmed case of monkeypox was recorded,” the ministry said in a statement.

It explained that the case was most likely coming from a European country, which was monitored within the framework of the protocol established in the country since the announcement of this global health alert.

According to the ministry, the health condition of the case is stable, and currently under health care, where the case is being taken care of in accordance with approved health procedures.

In a statement, the ministry emphasized that regional and public health emergency operation centers and rapid response teams have initiated an immediate epidemiological inquiry to identify potential cases that have been in contact with the infected patient.

He noted that all those who were in contact with the case did not show any symptoms until the hour, and the WHO and the officials of the international health regulations in Morocco that originated the case have been notified of the results of the analysis.

Morocco's health ministry confirmed that it will continue to communicate with the national public opinion, and inform it of the developments.
