Spain national football team and Argentina national football team could face each other in Morocco if plans to host the 2026 Finalissima outside Qatar are confirmed.
Officials from UEFA and CONMEBOL are scheduled to hold a decisive meeting on Thursday to determine the fate and location of the intercontinental clash.
The Finalissima traditionally pits the champions of Europe against the champions of South America. In this edition, Spain, winners of UEFA Euro 2024, will take on Argentina, champions of Copa América 2024.
According to Spanish outlet El Mundo, the match will not be held in Qatar, despite earlier plans for it to take place at Lusail Stadium.
Cities such as London, Rome, and Milan are currently considered the leading candidates to host the game, though the Moroccan capital Rabat has also emerged as a possible option.
The report also noted that the Qatar Football Association recently suspended football activities and postponed competitions indefinitely due to ongoing regional developments, which contributed to reconsidering the hosting arrangements.
Both the Spanish and Argentine football federations are keen to play the match as scheduled rather than postpone it, as the international calendar offers very limited alternative dates.
