Morocco secured a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Tanzania on Sunday night to book a place in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, currently being held in Morocco.
The Round of 16 encounter was played at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, where the hosts dominated possession and created several chances, particularly in the first half. Morocco thought they had taken the lead before the break when Ismael Saibari found the net, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
After continued pressure in the second half, the breakthrough finally came in the 64th minute. Real Madrid star Ibrahim Diaz produced a moment of brilliance, scoring a superb goal that proved decisive and sent the Atlas Lions into the last eight of the tournament.
Tanzania defended resolutely for long spells but struggled to threaten the Moroccan goal, as the hosts controlled the tempo and managed the closing stages with confidence.
With this win, Morocco national football team advances to the quarterfinals of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025, where they will face the winner of the Round of 16 clash between Cameroon national football team and South Africa national football team.
