Morocco’s U-20 team pulled off a stunning upset at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, defeating Brazil 2-1 in their Group Stage match early Thursday.

This victory follows their 2-0 win over Spain in the opening round, allowing Morocco to secure an early spot in the Round of 16 with six points at the top of Group C.

The Moroccan goals came from Othman Maama in the 60th minute and Yasser Al-Zubairi in the 76th minute.

Brazil’s sole goal was a late penalty by Iago Teodoro in the 92nd minute. This marks the first time in U-20 World Cup history that Brazil has failed to win either of its opening two matches.

In the same group, Spain and Mexico played out a 2-2 draw.

Mexico’s Gilberto Mora opened the scoring in the 32nd minute, Pablo Garcia equalized for Spain in the 42nd, and Iker Bravo gave Spain the lead with a penalty in the 80th. Mora scored again in the 87th minute to secure the draw for Mexico.

The final Group C matches will see Spain face Brazil and Morocco take on Mexico.

The 24 participating teams in the tournament, including Egypt led by coach Osama Nabih, are divided into six groups of four.

Group winners and runners-up advance directly to the knockout stage, along with the four best third-placed teams.
