On Saturday evening, Morocco’s national football team defeated the Portuguese national team with a free goal, in a match that was held on the grounds of Al-Thumama Stadium, as part of the quarter-final competitions in the 2022 World Cup.
The goal of the "Atlas Lions" team came with a header by Youssef En-Nesyri in the 42nd minute of the first half.
The Moroccan national team qualified for the semi-finals for the first time in the history of its participation in the largest world championships, as the team had not previously achieved this.
With the win, Morocco became the first African country to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA World Cup, having managed three of them, narrowly ahead of them.
En-Nesyri rose high into the sky to head the net just before half-time, and the Moroccan defense took over from there, stifling Portugal's attack for the full 90 minutes.
Portuguese football player Christiano Ronaldo started the game on the bench, as Fernando Santos once again favored young Goncalo Ramos in attack, but the Portugal coach turned to his aging captain just minutes into the first half.
The "Atlas Lions" team will face the winner of the France-England match in the Golden Horde, while the Portuguese team's path ended in the Qatar World Cup.
