Liverpool star Mohamed Salah received his teammate Sadio Mane after the Senegalese managed to scoop the 2019 African Player of the Year Award for the first time in his history.

Liverpool's website posted a cheerful photo of Salah shaking hands with his teammate Mane.

Mane beat fellow nominees, his Liverpool team-mate Salah and Manchester City’s Riyad Mahrez, at the Confederation of African Football’s awards ceremony in Hurghada, Egypt on Tuesday, January 7.

The 27-year-old Egyptian star stirred controversy after refusing to attend the ceremony, which was held in his homeland.

Some reports claimed that Salah did not attend the ceremony due to his loggerheads with the Egyptian FA over various issues in the last couple of years.

Salah commented hazily on the CAF Federation award, which went to the EFA after he uploaded a picture of his daughter Makka laughing along with the words "and the award for best federation goes to..."

This misty comment backed up the claims, which said that his ongoing feud with his country's FA is more likely to be the reason, and his post backed up those claims.

Liverpool will seek to maintain their unbeaten start to the Premier League season as the Reds are set to clash against Tottenham on Saturday.
