Molnupiravir Coronavirus Treatment Available in Pharmacies, Ministry Says

The Scientific Committee for Competing against Coronavirus approved on Tuesday releasing Molnupiravir, a Coronavirus treatment, in pharmacies for purchase.

The treatment has shown very good performance after adding it to the protocols of Coronavirus treatment which motivated the Ministry of Health to provide it for citizens who are being treated in the home, Hossam Hosny, the Head Scientific Committee for Competing against Coronavirus.

The treatment will cost EGP 420, and the package has 40 hard-capsule and it will be enough for five days.

Previously, George Maher, the head of the marketing department at Egyptian drug maker Eva Pharma, highlighted that the firm is one of the earliest producers of Molnupiravir in the whole world.

Patients will be required to have four capsules of the medicine during the day, and the same dose should be repeated at night.

Maher explained also that the medicine is now available at the pharmacies at public hospitals to make sure of its availability for those who really need it as this medicine is produced only in the US, and the UK, alongside Egypt.

Moreover, 25,000 boxes were produced, however, there is the essential material to produce another 150,000 doses.

The medicines was distributed in the hospitals and ministries' medical facilities since January before the distribution of the treatment expanded to include pharmacies.

Advisor to Minister of Health for Information Technology (IT) Aysam Salah said that the numbers of coronavirus infections are not the same as in earlier waves, noting that the infected people do not need to be hospitalized.

Regarding COVID-19 vaccniation process, Salah added that 49 million people received the first dose, 35 million received the second dose, and more than 6 million people received the booster shot.

Health Presidential Advisor, Dr. Mohamed Awad Taj El-Din warned of a new wave of Corona, stressing that Egypt has entered the sixth wave, and everyone must recommit to all precautionary measures again.

In press statements, he added that the pandemic is still present, and the virus comes in waves, and we passed through 5 waves.

The presidential adviser added that people must adhere to preventive measurements for a month or more, despite a significant decrease in infections.

He revealed that a week or 10 days ago there was an increase in cases, and every day we monitor a larger number than the last day,  so it may be a sixth wave of the disease.
