British media reports have revealed striking details of the agreement that will see Egyptian star Mohamed Salah leave Liverpool, reflecting the special relationship between the two parties over the years.
According to talkSPORT, Salah agreed to waive the final year of his contract, which was set to expire in June 2027, paving the way for his free transfer in the upcoming transfer window.
This decision means the Egyptian captain will forgo a substantial sum of approximately £20.8 million, including his fixed annual salary and bonuses. He was earning around £400,000 per week, making him one of the highest-paid players in Premier League history.
This concession aims to facilitate his departure without any transfer fee, granting him complete flexibility in choosing his next destination. Meanwhile, Liverpool benefits from reducing one of the highest wage bills in the squad.
In contrast, Liverpool's management reacted positively to Salah's situation, viewing the move as a fitting and amicable end to a career spanning nearly nine years, marked by significant successes and notable achievements without any significant contractual issues.
This financial saving is expected to impact Liverpool's activity in the summer transfer market, as the club plans to reinvest the funds in strengthening its attacking line. Prominent names have been identified as potential successors to the Egyptian star, such as Khvica Kvaratskhelia and Leroy Sané.
Reports indicate that the contract Salah signed in April 2025 guaranteed him approximately £20 million annually as a base salary, in addition to bonuses. This makes his decision to leave before the end of his contract a clear financial consideration, alongside its sporting and personal implications.
