The former Real Madrid star made his Croatia debut in March 2006 in a friendly against Argentina and has since featured in five World Cups, placing him among a select group of players to have appeared in that many editions of the tournament.
Although Croatia missed the 2010 finals, Modrić has still built an outstanding World Cup record, highlighted by a runners-up finish in 2018 and a third-place finish in 2022.
His international achievements add to a glittering club career that includes a record 28 trophies with Real Madrid, as well as multiple domestic titles with Dinamo Zagreb and the crowning achievement of winning the Ballon d’Or.
