AC Milan have suffered a major setback after confirmation that Croatian star Luka Modric will miss the remainder of the season due to injury sustained during their Serie A clash against Juventus.
The match, played at San Siro, ended in a goalless draw, with both sides showing strong tactical discipline and defensive organization as they continue their battle for Champions League qualification spots.
The key moment came in the 77th minute when Modric collided heavily with Manuel Locatelli. The midfielder fell to the ground with a facial injury and was forced off the pitch, raising immediate concern from both the coaching and medical staff.
According to reports from Croatian outlet Sportske Novosti, medical tests revealed that Modric suffered a double fracture to the cheekbone, ruling him out for the rest of the season with Milan.
Doctors have not yet made a final decision on whether surgery will be required. The medical team is currently considering conservative treatment in an effort to speed up his recovery ahead of upcoming international competitions.
Despite the seriousness of the injury, the Croatian national team remains hopeful that their captain will be fit in time for the World Cup, potentially playing with a protective face mask.
Milan currently sit third in the Serie A table with 67 points after 34 rounds, trailing leaders Inter Milan by 12 points as the race for Champions League qualification intensifies.
