Real Madrid star Luka Modric was asked about his international retirement after Croatia's tragic 2024 Euro exit.
Modric refused to set a date for his retirement, especially after the result of the latest game against Italy.
Modric scored a goal for his country against Italy which was enough for Croatia to qualify for the knockouts, but a last-second goal by Italy get the Gli Azzurri back to the tournament.
The Real Madrid said about retirenment: “It will happen one day.”
He added, “I don’t know when I will retire from football. I want to keep playing forever, but of course we all know that this is impossible.”
He concluded, “I don’t know what to say. Sometimes football is cruel. Thank you to the fans for supporting us, and we are sorry that we did not succeed in passing to the next round.”
Modric is so close to announce the renewal of his contract with Real Madrid for another season to continue his career with the Royal Club for over 11 years, during which he won 26 titles.
With his goal in Italy on Monday, the 39-year-old became the oldest player to score in Euro history, and Croatia’s all-time top scorer in the competition.
