Within the framework of the “Know Your Country” initiative launched by the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities during December 2020 to raise tourism and archaeological awareness among all segments of the Egyptian society to make them familiar with their cultural heritage and the tourist and archaeological sites in the various Egyptian governorates, the ministry organized a number of awareness trips. It was represented by the Egyptian Authority for Tourism Activation (EATA) which organized an educational and entertaining trip to the Saqqara archaeological zone for a group of children brooded in one of the care homes of the Ministry of Social Solidarity.
On her part, Iman Mahmoud, Head of the Central Department of Internal Tourism at the (EATA), indicated that organizing this trip is part of a comprehensive program targeting children belonging to different care homes, believing in the societal role of the ministry.
The children and their supervisors were received by Sabri Farag, director of the Saqqara Antiquities Zone and the archaeological inspectors in the region, who gave them a simplified explanation of the antiquities in the zone. They accompanied the visiting children to the Saqqara pyramid from the inside.
The trip also included a tour inside the Imhotep Museum and its archaeological treasures.
At the end of the trip, a group of games and coloring activities were organized for the children.
However, the Alexandria Office of the EATA in cooperation with the Egyptian Dwarfs Association, organized a tourism awareness trip for a group of dwarves, during which they visited the ancient Alexandria Sports Stadium, where members of the EATA’s office in Alexandria delivered a tourism awareness lecture on the importance of tourism and the role of the Authority and its offices.
Mahmoud indicated that organizing this trip is the first cooperation of its kind between the ministry and the association, which highlights the ministry's interest in them.
Also, the EATA’s office in Port Said, in cooperation with the Ramses Authority’s office, organized a trip for members of the Civil Society Development Association of Quesna City in Menoufia Governorate, during which they visited the Church of Saint Eugenie, the pedestal of the statue of De Lesseps and the old lighthouse.
They also went to Port Fouad to see the Salt Mountains and the villa of the late President Mohamed Anwar Sadat. During this trip the visitors listened to a full explanation of these monuments from one of the antiquities inspectors.
The members of the (EATA)’s office in Matrouh Governorate also received the youth of the Sehali Youth Center in Abu Homs, Buhiara Governorate, during the awareness trip organized by the EATA for them to visit Matrouh Governorate, which lasted for three days.
During the trip they visited a number of tourist and archaeological sites in the governorate. They listened to an explanation on these places and the archaeological treasures they contain.
They toured the Matrouh Archaeological Museum, the Egyptian Public Library, the Bedouin Heritage Museum at the library's headquarters, and the Rommel Cave Museum on Rommel Island, in addition to a visit to the El Alamein Museum.
During the trip, the members of the EATA’s office offered them a presentation at the hotel in which they were staying.
The EATA's office in Siwa Oasis, in cooperation with of Al Salam Youth Center in the oasis, organized a tourist awareness trip for 60 people, during which they visited the salt lakes, Cleopatra’s Well and Jabal Dakrour, during which they listened to an explanation of these tourist places.
In addition to the members of the authority presenting maps and propaganda materials to them. About the various tourist places and maps, in addition to organizing a competition during which some tourist questions were asked and prizes and gifts were distributed to the winners.
The head of EATA indicated that all participants in these trips expressed their happiness with these visits, and expressed their desire to repeat such trips to visit various tourist and archaeological sites to see Egyptian antiquities and learn about the history of their country's civilization.
