Dr. Khaled Al-Anani, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, accompanied by Ahmed Sami Al-Qadi, Deputy Governor of Sohag, inaugurated the project to develop the archaeological area "Attribs" in the Sheikh Hamad , Sohag Governorate.
The Temple of Attribs is considered one of the 5 temples nationwide, all of which date back to the Greco-Roman era.
The temple was discovered by the archaeologist Petri in 1907 AD.
Then the Egyptian Antiquities Authority adopted a project of excavations in it between 1983 and 1997 AD.
However, the Egyptian-German Mission, has recently completed the discovery of the ruins of the Temple of Attribs.
The temple is characterized by its unique design, which starts with a long corridor that connects to the edge of the agricultural land and ends with many steps that lead to the main part of the temple, which still preserves many inscriptions, and on the sides of the long corridor are some ruins of small chapels.
The temple was built by King Ptolemy XII, "the father of Queen Cleopatra VII", on an area of 30 acres, in the Western Desert.
And it is about 7 km from the city of Sohag.
It contains a portico with 26 columns all surrounding the temple from the eastern, western and northern sides, and 3 rooms behind the Holy of Holies and all open in the north direction, which is opposite to the entrance to the temple.
The temple has an entrance in its northern wall, which is a landmark that was not repeated frequently in ancient Egyptian architecture.
The project to develop the archaeological area of Attribs comes as part of the local development program in Upper Egypt funded by the World Bank and the Egyptian government at a cost of EGP 5.5 million, in cooperation with the Ministry of Antiquities.
The development of the temple includes the construction of a wall to protect the area, a car park, a ascending stair, 4 tourist bazaars, and the establishment of a gate and lighting the area and the temple.
The local authorities asphalted the road from the entrance to Al Kawemil - the airport to Sheikh Hamad with a length of 7 km, in addition to restoration and maintenance works, to contribute to attracting more tourist delegations, and providing the necessary comfort for visitors.
