Mr. Sherif Fathy, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, received today at the Ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, Dr. Sergio Román Carranza, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Spain to Cairo, who recently assumed his duties. The meeting aimed to discuss ways to strengthen joint cooperation between the two countries in the fields of tourism and archaeology.

Strengthening Strategic Ties

The Minister commenced the meeting by welcoming the Spanish Ambassador, wishing him success in his diplomatic mission and a pleasant stay in Egypt. He emphasized the depth of the historical and distinguished relations between the two friendly nations, expressing his aspirations to further enhance cooperation to serve their mutual interests.

The discussions focused on exploring tourism investment opportunities in Egypt, particularly within the hotel sector. This aligns with the state’s plan to increase hotel capacity to accommodate the expected growth in tourist arrivals in the coming period.

Record-Breaking Achievements

Ambassador Carranza congratulated the Minister on Egypt’s unprecedented record-breaking results in inbound tourism during 2025. He praised the Egyptian state’s efforts to develop the tourism sector and solidify Egypt’s position on the global tourism map.

Both parties reaffirmed the strength of Egyptian-Spanish relations, which have evolved significantly into a strategic partnership. This progress builds upon the results of mutual visits between His Excellency President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and His Majesty the King of Spain.

Preparation for FITUR 2026

The meeting touched upon the ongoing preparations for Egypt’s participation in the International Tourism Trade Fair (FITUR 2026), scheduled to begin next Wednesday in Madrid. The Minister is set to inaugurate the Egyptian pavilion, which will feature various activities to promote Egypt’s diverse and unique tourism products.

Notably, a promotional campaign launched by the Ministry has already seen the streets and squares of the Spanish capital adorned with images and videos showcasing Egyptian tourist destinations.

Archaeological Cooperation

In the field of antiquities, the two sides discussed:

Joint Excavations and Restoration: Exploring further collaboration in archaeological missions.

Expertise Exchange: Enhancing training and scientific partnerships.

Current Missions: It was noted that 16 Spanish archaeological missions are currently operating across various sites in Egypt, reflecting the deep scientific bond between the two countries.

Attendance:
