The Minister of Culture Dr. Enas Abdel-Dayem inaugurated the 59th session of Cairo Salon held under the title "The Aura and Uniqueness in Contemporary Egyptian Art" on Tuesday.

The inauguration was attended by Head of the Fine Arts Sector Khaled Sorour, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Fine Arts Lovers Association Ahmed Nawar, Dr. Naguib Moein, General Nationalist of the salon, the great artist George Bahjoury, and a number of plastic artists, critics, and concerned parties.

“Since its first launch in 1921, Cairo Salon has contributed to enriching the fine arts arena as it is one of the bright images that express the artistic identity of the nation,” Abdel-Dayem mentioned.

The Minister of Culture also praised the participating works which reflect a unique artistic vision characterized by a multiplicity of schools and orientations.

She stressed that she will continue helping and supporting creative arts in all its fields as it represents the cornerstone of self-cultivation and character building.

She also thanked all those in charge of establishing and organizing the Cairo Salon, urging them to keep exerting efforts to contribute to the development of society through gentle force.

On his part, Dr. Khaled Sorour confirmed that the salon includes 85 artists from different generations whose works embody different variations of the colors of plastic creativity as the exhibition will run until November 3.

Sorour also noted that during the salon, nine artists from the pioneers of the Egyptian plastic art movement will be honored, namely Atiyat Sayed, Zainab el-Seginy, Rabab Nimer, Tariq Zebadi, Mustafa Abdel Moty, Medhat Nasr, George el-Bahgoury and Ahmed Abdel Wahab.

It is noteworthy that the Cairo Salon is the oldest artistic activity in Egypt as its first session was held in 1921 after the inauguration of the first specialized school for fine arts in 1908 during the reign of Emir "Yusuf Kamal", after which the Egyptian Society for Fine Arts was established following the 1919 revolution under the name of "Cairo Salon".
