Egypt's Minitry of Foreign Affair issues warning for traveller to Tanzania, not to carry on with them plastic bags, after the African country's government applied strict banning on those bags.
As of June 1, the Tanzania's ban for the use of all types of plastic bags whether exported, imported, processed or stored enetered into effect.
Tanzania has banned the import, production, sale and use of plastic bags, becoming the 34th African country that implements such restrictions, according to the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP).
Tanzanian Vice President Samia Hassan Suluhu said the state would not tolerate anyone caught using plastic bags. The government has issued a notification to passengers that they would have to "hand over" their plastic bags before entering the country.
"The government expects that in recognition of the need to protect the environment and preserve the cleanliness and beauty of our country, our visitors will accept simple inconveniences caused by the banning of plastic bags," the statement said.
According to local media, anyone who manufacture or import plastic bags will be fined one billion Tanzanian shillings ($ 430,000) or face a two-year sentence.
Possession and use of this type of bag for inpiduals may result in a fine of $ 87, or imprisonment for 7 days or both.
