Mexico finished top of Group A at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after cruising to a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic in their final group-stage match on Thursday.

After a goalless first half, Mexico found their rhythm after the break and struck three times to secure a perfect group-stage campaign.

Chávez García opened the scoring in the 55th minute, before Julián Quiñones doubled the lead just six minutes later in the 61st minute.

Fidalgo then added a third goal deep into stoppage time in the 94th minute to complete an emphatic win.

The result sees Mexico finish the group stage with a perfect nine points from three matches, having already beaten South Africa 2-0 in their opener and South Korea 1-0 in their second match.

With that record, Mexico became the first team at the tournament to collect the maximum nine points from the group stage.

Mexico had already secured qualification to the Round of 32, but the victory ensured they advanced as group winners, carrying strong momentum into the knockout rounds.

It also means El Tri are guaranteed to play at least one knockout match in Mexico City, a major boost as they continue their campaign in front of home supporters.

The Czech Republic, meanwhile, ended their World Cup campaign at the bottom of the group with just one point.

Mexico coach Javier Aguirre welcomed the result but remained cautious, insisting his side must stay focused despite their impressive start to the tournament.

With three wins from three and growing confidence, Mexico now head into the knockout phase as one of the standout teams of the competition so far.
