Messi's Inter Miami Suffer Shock MLS Cup Elimination

Early Sunday, Lionel Messi's Inter Miami suffered a shocking 3-2 defeat to Atlanta United to bid a farewell to the MLS Cup.

Miami took the lead after Matias Rojas scored receiving the ball from Messi.

Shortly, the table is turned as Jamal Thiare scored two goals in two minutes to give the lead to Atlanta.

Next, Messi equalized the score with a header, however, Messi's efforts failed to save Inter Miami after Atlanta's Bartosz Slisz scored the victory goal. 

Inter Miami coach Gerardo Martino said: "This season has had good and bad things."

He added: "If you think about the expectations we had for this play-offs, obviously we came up a little short,

"The players are sad, as they should be when there are so many expectations and the team can't fulfil them,

"In this final part of the year we got used to achieving the objectives but we couldn't achieve the most important one."

Last month, Inter Miami were announced for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup as host representative after winning the MLS Supporters' Shield.
