On Friday, Spanish reports indicated that Argentina's football icon Lionel Messi is so close to participate in the new FIFA Club World Cup in 2025 that will be hosted in the USA.
Prestigious sports outlet Marca said that FIFA will decide inviting USA's Major League Soccer (MLS) to participate in the tournament as the host country's representative.
The outlet highlighted that the presence of Messi is definitely an additional value to the tournament that will follow a new formate in the forthcoming edition.
Two weeks ago, Inter Miami won the 2024 MLS Supporters' Shield, so, they could be invited for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
The team is so close to be a host representative, so, Miami's Hard Rock Stadium could potentially host the opening match of the tournament.
MLS would be represented by two teams as the Seattle Sounders, who qualified after winning the 2022 CONCACAF Champions Cup title.
32 teams will participate in the tournament with Clubs from AFC, CAF, Concacaf, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA set to partake.
The tournament will take place from June 15 to July 13 2025.
