World Cup winners' captain Lionel Messi announced, Tuesday, that he has no plans to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Efe News Agency reported that Messi told reporters: "I think not. [Qatar] was my last World Cup. I'll see how things go, but as it is right now, no, I won't go to the next World Cup."
Previously, Messi said that the tournament was going to be his last. However, Argentina coach Lionel Scaloni hopes to convince the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner to be featured at the 2026 World Cup.
Messi is, now, enlisted on the Argentina squad for the team's upcoming friendlies against Australia on Thursday and Indonesia four days later.
The star had an outstanding role at the tournament in Qatar to achieve his major dream to capture the world cup.
