Messi was injured during the game between Inter Miami and Mexican club Necaxa early on Sunday, as part of the second round of the Leagues Cup competition.
The 38-year-old was part of the team's starting XI but was forced to leave the field after just 11 minutes due to injury.
Initial reports, suggested that his injury was muscular. It is estimated that Messi’s recovery time could be between 3 to 4 weeks, though the club is expected to provide further details.
Messi, known for the famous phrase "the body does not forgive," has suffered nearly 50 different injuries throughout his professional career, which has spanned since the 2005-2006 season.
These injuries have occurred during his time at Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inter Miami, as well as with the Argentina national team.
