On its part, Marca newspaper said that the Blaugrana has not commented on Messi's injury yet.

Spain deployed a large-scale security operation involving about 1,545 personnel at the Clasico.

The Spanish police have to boost their presence around the stadium, which will host the game as 78,000 fans are expected to attend the match.

Barcelona are now at the top of the La Liga table with a two-point lead.

The Whites head into tonight’s clash having failed to win any of their last three games in all competitions, which includes a 2-1 defeat to Manchester City in the Champions League.

Real Madrid will enter the game without the Belgian winger Eden Hazard, and the Spanish winger Marco Asensio due to injuries, while winger Rodrygo is suspended after being dismissed.

Barca head into tonight’s clash without the Uruguayan forward Luis Suárez, the French striker Ousmane Dembele, and the right-back Sergi Robert.
