The Argentina national team, led by legend Lionel Messi, secured a resounding 6-0 victory over Puerto Rico in the friendly match held early Wednesday at "Chase Stadium" in Florida, USA.
Argentina is preparing to participate in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will take place in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The team is also set to face Spain next March in the Finalissima, the match between the Copa America and UEFA European Championship winners, reportedly to be held in Qatar’s capital, Doha.
Although Lionel Messi did not score in the match, he assisted two of Argentina’s six goals.
The other goals were scored by Alexis Mac Allister of Liverpool (two goals), Gonzalo Montiel (one goal), Lautaro Martínez (two goals), and an own goal by Steven Echevarria.
Messi has now contributed to a total of 1,284 goals throughout his career, combining his goals and assists for Argentina and his clubs, Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Inter Miami.
He has also provided 398 assists over his football career.
Lionel Messi leads the list of top international assist providers with 60 assists for Argentina, surpassing Landon Donovan, who had 58 assists for the United States, and Neymar, who also recorded 58 assists for Brazil.
