Defending world champions Argentina national football team completed their preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a convincing 3-0 victory over Iceland national football team in an international friendly on Wednesday morning.

Argentina took an early lead through Valentín Barco in the 8th minute before captain Lionel Messi doubled the advantage in the 72nd minute following his return from injury. Thiago Almada sealed the victory with a third goal four minutes from time.

The win provides a confidence boost for Argentina ahead of the tournament, which kicks off on June 11 in the United States, Canada, and Mexico and will feature 48 teams for the first time in World Cup history.

Argentina, the reigning champions, have been drawn in Group J alongside Algeria national football team, Jordan national football team, and Australia national football team.

Lionel Scaloni's side will begin the defense of their world title against Algeria on June 17, before facing Jordan and Australia in the remaining group-stage fixtures.

The 2026 FIFA World Cup will run from June 11 to July 19, with a record 104 matches scheduled across the three host nations. The final will be played at MetLife Stadium.
