Lionel Messi decided to leave Inter Miami after the end of his contract with the Major League Soccer side in 2025, reports claimed on Monday.
The reports highlighted that Messi looks to end his career in his country, Argentina, and at his youth club Newell's Old Boys.
Messi spent five of his youth years at Newell's Old Boys from 1995 to 2000.
The reports linked Messi's decision of leaving the US after the end of his contract with Inter Miami with an old interview that published in 2016 where Messi admitted his desire to end his career at his boyhood club.
Messi said at that interview: "If I go back to Argentina tomorrow, which I would love, the club I would play for would be Newell's."
However, he later expressed some reservations about moving back due to concerns about safety and security in Argentina.
Messi was out of action for almost two months due to an ankle injury, and he returned last week when he scored twice.
