UEFA announced, Thursday, the nomination of Manchester City's Erling Haaland, and Kevin De Bruyne, along with the Argentinian icon Lionel Messi for the 2022/23 Men's Player of the Year.
The statement said: “UEFA has announced the names of the top three nominees for the 2022/23 UEFA Men’s Player of the Year award,” the statement reads.
The selected names were chosen due to their performance in the previously mentioned season for their clubs and national teams.
The nominees were shortlisted to three through voting of a jury consisting of the coaches of clubs that participated in the group stage of European club competitions last season, in addition to national team coaches and selected journalists.
Haaland and De Bruyne played a vital role with The Citizens to claim the top three competitions in the season, including the UEFA Champions League.
On the other hand, Messi led Argentina to capture gold, despite his poor season with Paris Saint-Germain.
The winner will be announced at the Grimaldi Forum, Monaco, on Thursday, August 31.
