Argentine superstar Lionel Messi continues to break records despite being 38 years old, adding a new achievement to his extraordinary career after Inter Miami’s 4–0 win over Cincinnati and their qualification for the Eastern Conference final in Major League Soccer.
Messi provided three assists in the match, equalling Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskás as the player with the most assists in football history, with 404 assists.
According to official data from the global network Opta, Messi reached this historic milestone across 1,135 official matches throughout his professional career.
Messi is also close to reaching 900 official goals, needing just four more goals to achieve this historic accomplishment. He could potentially reach it in MLS, with at least one match remaining in the Eastern Conference final scheduled for next Saturday.
If Inter Miami wins, the team will advance to the league championship match to face the Western Conference champion.
Messi is enjoying an exceptional season in 2025, scoring 46 goals this year.
He finished as the top scorer of the regular season and has contributed to 23 goals, whether by scoring or assisting, in his last 10 matches, an astonishing statistic that reflects his outstanding form.
If he maintains this level during the playoffs, he could also become the top scorer of the postseason, having already scored six goals in recent matches.
