Spanish reports said on Friday that Barcelona's star Lionel Messi could leave the Camp Nou at the end of this current season.
According to Marca newspaper, the Argentina captain can leave the Blaugrana this coming season, however his contract expires in 2021.
The Spanish newspaper said that Messi could end his stay at the Camp Nou due to a clause that allows him to leave Barca.
"Messi's renewal is until 2020, but with an optional renewal until 2021. As it stands, there's nothing until 2022 and the player will be free to discuss with any club from next January 1," Marca reported.
The Argentinian does not express his interest in leaving the Spanish club so far, and everything should continue as normal.
Messi did not take part in Barcelona's first three clashes in La Liga due to his right calf injury.
The Argentinian sustained a right calf injury on Monday, August 5 during the Barca training session. The Spanish club released a statement confirming his injury later that day.
“First team player Lionel Messi, who had returned from his summer break for training on Monday, withdrew from the session due to discomfort in his right leg,” the statement read.
“Messi will remain in Barcelona and will now not travel to the USA for the club’s tour. His availability to come back to action will be dictated by his recovery from the injury,” it added.
It is worth mentioning that Barcelona made the worst star ever to their adventure in the Spanish league after suffering a shock defeat by Athletic Bilbao in the opening game of La Liga (0-1).
Then, they demolished Real Betis in the second round 5-2, before holding a 2-2 draw against Osasuna in the third round.
