Messi Closes In on 1000 Goals after Scoring in Inter Miami Draw with Austin in MLS Clash

Inter Miami were held to a 2–2 draw by Austin FC in the early hours of Sunday, in a Matchday 6 encounter in Major League Soccer.

The hosts found the net through Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez, who scored in the 10th and 82nd minutes respectively. 

Austin responded with goals from Guilherme Biro and Nelson Quiñónes in the 6th and 53rd minutes.

The result sees Inter Miami move to 11 points, placing them fourth in the Eastern Conference standings, while Austin remain on 6 points in 11th place in the Western Conference.

Messi continued his impressive form, taking his tally to five league goals this season. His recent scoring run includes a brace against Orlando City, in addition to goals against D.C. United and New York City FC.

The Argentine star has now reached 903 career goals, moving within 97 strikes of the historic 1,000-goal milestone, an achievement yet to be reached by any player in football history.

However, Messi is not the closest to that landmark. His long-time rival Cristiano Ronaldo, captain of Al Nassr, currently stands on 967 career goals, just 33 away from becoming the first player to reach the unprecedented four-figure mark.
