Lionel Messi, captain of Argentina, has arrived in the United States to join the national team’s training camp ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 38-year-old reached Kansas City on Sunday evening, shortly after the rest of the squad landed, marking the official start of Argentina’s final preparation phase for the tournament.

Messi traveled alongside his national teammate and Inter Miami colleague Rodrigo De Paul as Argentina begins assembling its full squad.

The reigning world champions, led by Argentina national football team, will enter the competition as title holders after winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Argentina has been drawn into Group 10, where they will begin their campaign against Algeria on June 16 in Kansas City, before facing Austria and Jordan in the group stage.

Ahead of the tournament, the squad will also play two friendly matches against Honduras and Iceland as part of their final preparations. Messi’s participation in these friendlies remains uncertain due to recent muscle fatigue, as he is currently undergoing a recovery program under the team’s medical staff.

This World Cup is expected to be Messi’s sixth appearance in the tournament, further extending his historic international career with the national team.
