Merkel Arrives in Israel for Farewell Visit

German Chancellor Angela Merkel arrived in Israel late Saturday for her farewell visit as chancellor.

Merkel will meet with the Israeli cabinet, visit Yad Vashem and Israeli entrepreneurs.

The 67-year-old is also expected to receive an honorary PhD from Haifa’s Technion Institute of Technology.

PM Naftali Bennett will discuss with Merkel regional issues, among them Iran.

Throughout her 16 years in power, Merkel has described Israel’s national security as a crucial priority of German foreign policy due to their responsibility for the Holocaust.
