Meet 1st Muslim Woman President in Africa

Samia Suluhu has been appointed as the new President of Tanzania on Thursday, to be the first Muslim and Vailed woman to hold such a position in Africa.

She was the vice-President in the late President John Magufuli who passed away yesterday. In addition, the announcement was made by her.

She will be also the first woman who carries the full authority as a head of a state, as the position of the presidency in Ethiopia whose hold by a woman is ceremonial.

The 61-year Old President was born in Zanzibar. She started her career in the political scene since 2000.

She won in the parliamentary elections in 2000. Furthermore, she won the membership at the National Assembly in 2010.

She was elected as a Vice President since 2015, in addition, she was appointed as a minister of state since 2014.

She headed the commission that was responsible for constitutional amendments.
