Kylian Mbappé celebrated his 100th international appearance for France in unforgettable fashion, delivering a standout performance in their World Cup 2026 group-stage clash against Iraq.
The French captain reached the milestone at just 27 years and 184 days old, becoming one of the youngest European players ever to achieve a century of caps, with only Sergio Ramos, Lukas Podolski, and Kristjan Viikmäe doing so at a younger age.
The occasion proved to be more than symbolic, as Mbappé turned the historic night into another chapter of record-breaking achievement.
He scored twice in the match, further cementing his reputation as one of football’s most decisive figures on the global stage.
With those goals, Mbappé took his World Cup tally to 16 goals in just 16 appearances, becoming the fastest player in history to reach that number.
In doing so, he moved ahead of legends such as Ronaldo Nazário and Miroslav Klose in efficiency, and far ahead of Lionel Messi in terms of games required to reach the same mark.
Since the 2018 World Cup, Mbappé has also established himself as the tournament’s top scorer with 16 goals, surpassing Messi’s 13 and placing him among the all-time greats.
He now sits joint-second in the World Cup scoring charts with Klose, just two goals behind record-holder Messi.
