Kylian Mbappé continued to rewrite history in Spanish football after becoming the second-fastest player to reach 50 goals in La Liga during the 21st century, as Real Madrid secured a 2–0 victory over Levante on Saturday in Round 20 of the competition.
The French star scored Real Madrid’s opening goal of the match, taking his La Liga tally to 50 goals in just 53 appearances.
According to statistics provider Opta, only Cristiano Ronaldo reached the milestone faster, achieving it in 51 matches back in 2011.
Real Madrid went on to seal the win with a second goal from Raúl Asensio, who headed home in the 65th minute.
The result provided a timely morale boost for Los Blancos following recent setbacks in domestic competitions.
The victory marked a positive response from head coach Álvaro Arbeloa, who guided his side past Levante after their Copa del Rey elimination at the hands of Albacete.
Real Madrid had also suffered consecutive disappointments, losing the Spanish Super Cup final 3–2 to Barcelona before exiting the Copa del Rey in the round of 16.
With the win, Real Madrid moved up to second place in the La Liga standings with 48 points, just one point behind leaders Barcelona.
Levante, meanwhile, remain in relegation trouble, sitting 19th with 14 points.
