Egypt's tennis star Mayar Sherif is undergoing a medical examination following an injury she sustained two days ago.

The injury forced her to withdraw from the Hamburg Open during her first-round match.

Sherif suffered a back injury that prevented her from completing her match against American Louisa Chirico at the Hamburg Open.

It’s the same recurring injury she has experienced previously.

She is now undergoing a medical evaluation in Spain to determine the duration of her recovery and how long she will be away from the court. The results of this examination will decide whether she can participate in the upcoming US Open, scheduled to begin on August 24.

Mayar Sherif has been experiencing a streak of bad luck lately, with this being her third consecutive tournament withdrawal.

Her string of withdrawals began in the past two months, starting with her exit from the Grand Prix SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem tournament in Morocco, which concluded on May 23 of this year.

She also withdrew from Roland Garros—one of the four Grand Slam tournaments—due to injury, after reaching the second round in May.

Most recently, she announced her withdrawal from the ongoing Hamburg tournament in Germany during her first-round match against Louisa Chirico.

In the latest WTA rankings released this past Monday, Mayar Sherif dropped 13 places, falling to world No. 99.
