On Friday, Liverpool announced the departure of two of the team's stars: Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara by the end of this season.
Matip didn't make any Liverpool appearances since December due to a torn cruciate ligament. Matip departure from the Anfield is connected with the exit of Jurgen Klopp.
Regarding Alcantara, his journey with the Reds didn't meet the high hopes and the expectations of Liverpool's fans as he suffered many injuries, in addition to his age, therefore, Liverpool’s management decided not to renew his contract.
Klopp commented on Alcantara's departure: “The injuries were a source of frustration for us and for him as well, but what I will remember is the level he was able to play when he was available."
Matip made 201 appearances with Liverpool since joining in 2016, and was a key partner in achieving the Premier League, the Champions League, the FA and Carabao Cups, and the Club World Cup.
On the other hand, Alcantara, who only participated in 5 minutes this season, played 98 matches since joining from Bayern Munich in 2020.
