A massive demonstration has now begun on the Columbia University campus.

Protests were launched by students and professors at universities in various parts of the United States against the Israeli war on Gaza and in support of Palestine, after they escalated over the past few days against the backdrop of the arrest of dozens of student demonstrators at Columbia University, which sparked widespread controversy about students’ rights and academic freedoms.

The protests began last week with the establishment of a “Gaza Solidarity Camp” on the campus of Columbia University in New York City, before expanding to include other universities such as New York University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Yale, and others. And

Protesters are now demanding a severance of financial ties with Israel and divestment from companies they say are helping the war, while some Jewish students say the protests have turned "anti-Semitic" and made them afraid to enter campus, which has partly led to calls for police intervention.
