Olympique de Marseille dealt Paris Saint-Germain a heavy blow, securing a 1-0 victory in the headline clash of Ligue 1’s fifth round on Monday night at the Stade Vélodrome.
Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd scored the game’s only goal, sealing a precious win in Le Classique and halting PSG’s perfect start to the season after four straight victories.
With this result, Marseille climbed to ninth points, moving up to sixth place in the Ligue 1 standings.
PSG, meanwhile, were left stuck on 12 points, dropping to second on goal difference behind leaders Monaco, with Lyon and Strasbourg close behind.
Backed by a raucous home crowd, Marseille showed greater determination, making full use of their new signings Mason Greenwood, Benjamin Pavard, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The game had been postponed from Sunday due to adverse weather conditions.
Ironically, PSG’s defeat came as their coach Luis Enrique was being crowned Best Coach in the World at the Ballon d’Or 2025 ceremony taking place simultaneously in Paris.
