Spanish defender Mario Gila delivered an emotional farewell to Lazio after completing his permanent transfer to AC Milan, bringing an end to a memorable four-year spell with the Rome-based club.
The 25-year-old officially joined the Rossoneri in a deal reportedly worth €30 million after entering the final year of his contract with Lazio.
Real Madrid, Gila's former club, will receive 50 percent of Lazio's profit from the transfer under a previously agreed sell-on clause. The defender has signed a five-year contract with Milan.
Both clubs confirmed the transfer on Friday, with Lazio thanking Gila for his contributions after making 120 appearances and scoring two goals during his time at the club.
Shortly after the announcement, Lazio released a farewell video featuring the defender delivering a heartfelt message to the club, its supporters, teammates, coaching staff, and employees.
Gila thanked everyone who supported him throughout his journey, describing Lazio as the club that helped him grow from a young prospect into the player he is today. He admitted that leaving was extremely difficult and said the love he received from the fans would always remain with him.
The Spanish centre-back became visibly emotional as he concluded his farewell, struggling to hold back tears while expressing his gratitude to the club and the city of Rome.
"I say goodbye with immense pain in my heart. Forza Lazio, always," Gila said at the end of his message.
