Veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has reportedly agreed to extend his contract with Bayern Munich for another season, according to German newspaper Bild.
The report added that the 40-year-old goalkeeper will also play a key role in mentoring highly rated young keeper Jonas Urbig, who is viewed as Bayern’s long-term successor between the posts.
Bild also stated that third-choice goalkeeper Sven Ulreich has renewed his contract for an additional year, although Bayern Munich have yet to officially confirm the extension ahead of their final Bundesliga match of the season against FC Köln on Saturday, when the club will receive the league trophy.
Meanwhile, Neuer has reportedly returned to contention for Germany ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Sky Germany, national team coach Julian Nagelsmann included Neuer in Germany’s preliminary 55-man squad list set to be submitted to FIFA as part of the country’s preparations for the tournament.
Reports suggest Neuer’s return to the World Cup stage is now a realistic possibility, whether as Germany’s first-choice goalkeeper or as an experienced backup presence within the squad.
The experienced shot-stopper had announced his international retirement following UEFA Euro 2024, but ongoing discussions between Nagelsmann’s coaching staff and Neuer could pave the way for a dramatic comeback at the 2026 World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
