Bayern Munich’s veteran goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has officially announced his retirement from international football, confirming that his journey with the German national team has come to an end.
The declaration came shortly after Bayern’s emphatic 5–0 victory over Hamburg in the third round of the Bundesliga.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Neuer said: “I have made my decision not to represent the national team again.”
When asked whether he might reconsider in the future, he was clear: “No, my decision is final.”
The announcement marks the conclusion of an illustrious international career in which Neuer earned over 100 caps for Die Mannschaft and played a central role in Germany’s triumph at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
Reflecting on Bayern’s dominant performance against Hamburg, the 39-year-old goalkeeper praised his teammates: “We went into the match fully focused from the first minute and scored some beautiful goals, especially Serge Gnabry’s strike. Finishing the first half with a four-goal lead allowed us to rest players who had just returned from the international break.”
