Manchester United F.C. have officially confirmed that Michael Carrick will remain in charge of the first team after signing a new contract that runs until the summer of 2028.
Carrick returned to Old Trafford in January and quickly transformed the club’s fortunes, delivering an impressive run of results that secured qualification for next season’s UEFA Champions League.
The former midfielder made an immediate impact by leading United to victories over Manchester City F.C. and Arsenal F.C. in his opening matches as head coach.
His strong start earned him the Premier League Manager of the Month award, while United collected 11 wins from 16 games under his leadership.
Carrick remains one of the most respected figures in the club’s modern history after making 464 appearances for Manchester United during his playing career.
He won five Premier League titles, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the Champions League, Europa League and FIFA Club World Cup during his time at Old Trafford.
Speaking after extending his contract, Carrick said managing Manchester United continues to be a huge source of pride for him.
He said: “From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United. Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.
"Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here. Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”
