Manchester United are preparing to step up their pursuit of AS Roma midfielder Manu Koné after the French international's impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

According to Italian reports, United have shifted their attention to Koné after negotiations for Atalanta midfielder Ederson stalled, prompting the Premier League club to explore alternative midfield targets.

The 25-year-old enhanced his reputation with another standout display in France's 2-0 victory over Morocco in the World Cup quarter-finals, impressing with his ball recoveries, pace, and control in midfield.

Arsenal and Newcastle United are also monitoring the French midfielder, but Manchester United are understood to have already made initial contact with the player's representatives ahead of a potential formal offer.

Roma are reportedly unwilling to negotiate for less than €50 million, valuing Koné as one of the club's key players.

Reports also suggest that the midfielder previously rejected interest from Atletico Madrid because he prefers a move to the Premier League, potentially giving Manchester United an advantage in the race for his signature.

Koné is expected to feature for France in the World Cup semi-final, and a successful finish to the tournament could further increase his market value.

Roma remain open to selling the midfielder only if they receive a substantial offer, with Manchester United now preparing to test the Italian club's resolve during the summer transfer window.
