Manchester United reportedly contacted Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel, who is leaving his post with the Bundesliga giants by the end of this season, to take over the head coach's role at Old Trafford from Erik ten Hag, Kicker journalist Georg Holzner said on Monday.

The Red Devils are having a hard season, and it seems that they would end the season without securing a place in the UEFA Champions League.

Ten Hag has a final chance to save the Reds season by defeating Manchester City in the FA Cup final next month, in a highly anticipated Manchester Derby game.

In February, Chairman Sir Jim Ratcliffe will take charge of football operations and have the final say on sporting decisions made at Old Trafford.

Ratcliffe hinted Ten Hag may leave the Man United by the end of the season, in addition, he stopped backing Ten Hag publically.

BBC Sport reporter Alan Shearer said in The Rest is Football podcast that he feels that ten Hag's future has already been determined and that he will depart way with Manchester United in the summer.
