Manchester United have officially announced the resignation of head coach Rúben Amorim, ending his 14-month spell in charge of the club.
The Portuguese manager, who was appointed in November 2024, led the Red Devils to the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao last May but departs amid mixed domestic results.
Amorim’s final game in charge came on Sunday, when United were held to a 1–1 draw by Leeds United at Elland Road in Matchday 20 of the Premier League.
The result left the club in sixth place after 20 matches, intensifying pressure on the coaching staff.
According to The Athletic, the draw against Leeds marked the end of Amorim’s tenure, with the club’s hierarchy deciding to part ways following a run of inconsistent performances despite flashes of progress.
The match against Leeds was met with frustration from supporters, as boos were heard following the final whistle.
The result was seen as a major disappointment, particularly as it coincided with the one-year anniversary of Amorim’s appointment, adding to the sense of unrest around Old Trafford.
Manchester United currently sit fifth in the Premier League standings with 31 points, and former club captain Darren Fletcher will now step in on an interim basis as the club considers its next permanent managerial appointment.
