Manchester City secured qualification for the Round of 16 of the FA Cup after defeating Salford City 2–0 on Saturday evening at the Etihad Stadium in the fourth round of the competition.
City opened the scoring early in the sixth minute through an own goal by Alfie Dorrington, who inadvertently turned a cross from Rayan Aït-Nouri into his own net.
Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush was denied a legitimate goal in the 22nd minute after the assistant referee incorrectly flagged for offside, with no VAR technology in use to review the decision.
In the second half, defender Marc Guéhi sealed the victory with City’s second goal in the 81st minute, confirming the holders’ progression to the next round.
